Shaban is one of the sacred months and the 8th month of the Islamic calendar, serving as a spiritual bridge between the sacred month of Rajab and the holy fasting month of Ramzan. The month of Shaban is highly recommended for fasting (Roza) because the Prophet Muhammad observed fasts (Roza) more frequently than in other months, excluding the holy month of Ramzan.

The month of Shaban may start on January 21 in the year 2026, as it is the 8th and most significant month of the Islamic or Hijri calendar, and is the last lunar month before the holy month of Ramadan. The term Shaban comes from the Sha’ aba’, which is an Arabic word that means ‘emerge’, or ‘branch out’ which holds great importance in Islam. As per Muslims believe that Prophet Muhammad would offer fast (Roza) more in the holy or sacred month of Shaban than in any other month, excluding Ramadan.

It is celebrated on January 23 in the year 2026 mainly by Shia Muslims across the world. Most Shia individuals offer Ziarat in Karbala in the month of Shaban including 3 Shaban to celebrate the birth anniversary of Imam Hussain ibn Ali in Iraq. Several individuals offer fast (Roza), offer extra prayer (Namaz), and many more to celebrate the birth anniversary of Imam Hussain ibn Ali.
