International Mountain Day 2025

International Mountain Day is celebrated every year on December 11 to highlight the significance of preserving the beauty of mountains or beautiful hill stations across the world. The main aim of this international day is to spread awareness about the importance and benefits of mountains in the nature and environment all over the world. It is important to note that about 27 percent of mountains cover the surface of the Earth.

Mountains play an important role in providing food and fresh water to the common people worldwide. Thus, this global day is celebrated to spread awareness about preserving or maintaining the natural resources for the existence of life on earth. It is also beneficial in maintaining balance in the ecosystem and also concentrates on the opportunities for the development of mountains. This international provides an opportunity to educate common public to understand the important role of mountains in the environment and nature with their impact on life. Mountains are also the main sources of several big rivers across the world which also play a significant role in the water cycle.

At present most people spend vacations mainly in hill stations due to the beautiful scenes of natural resources such as green trees, beautiful nature, waterfalls, pure air, cold weather, and many more. Most married and young couples are visiting hill stations for their honeymoon such as Nainital, Kashmir, Shimla, Mussoorie, and many more. Several rich couples or celebrities are visiting foreign hill stations including Switzerland.

But nowadays, a large number of restaurants or hotels are opening and cutting green trees, or forests in popular hill stations that are responsible for landslides in mountainous areas. At present, the rapid cutting of trees and forests is one of the main causes of floods, landslides, and sudden climate changes, earthquakes, and floods which may cause a large number of deaths in hilly areas. So, we should maintain the green environment in the mountains. by planting thousands of green plants or trees and not rapidly constructing buildings such as houses, resorts, hotels, or restaurants in the mountains.

Now, the life of mountains is also under threat by many environmental problems that may be caused by rapidly cutting forests and constructing buildings including hotels, resorts, and many more. Mountains are under threat across the world due to overpopulation, cutting trees, sudden climate changes, and many more. The main aim of this global day is to spread awareness about the importance of mountains in the existence of lives on Earth among common people across the world.
