Children’s Day 2025

Introduction – The Children’s Day is also generally or popularly known as ‘’Bal Diwas’’ (Bal means children and Diwas means Day) which is observed on November 14 annually to celebrate the birth anniversary of the first prime minister of India, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru across the country. Jawahar. Jawahar Lal Nehru is also popularly known for ‘’Chacha Nehru’’ among children. He thought or believed that the children or kids are the base of society and the future strength of our country. Previously, Jawahar Lal Nehru loved to meet kids or children with huge love or affection thus, the birth anniversary of Nehru is celebrated as a Children’s Day or Bal Diwas annually on November 14 across India.

History – Earlier, Jawahar Lal Nehru had introduced or launched many big educational institutions in our country such as All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) for best education. Pandit Nehru was born on November 14, 1889, and children adored him and lovingly called him as ‘’Chacha Nehru’’.  Thus, the birth anniversary of Jawahar Lal Nehru was celebrated as Children’s Day across India. After the death of Pandit Nehru in the year 1964, a resolution was passed in the Parliament to celebrate his birth anniversary of Jawahar Lal Nehru as Children’s Day or Bal Diwas in India. This national day is celebrated across the country to raise awareness about the rights of a child such as the right to education for every child with appropriate care.

Significance – The main goal of the Children’s Day or ‘Bal Diwas’ celebrations is to spread awareness about the basic rights and education of children among people across India. On this day, most schools organize many cultural programs with teachers who perform songs and dances for their students all over the country. Some schools are also organizing several sports competitions for students to celebrate the Children’s Day across India. This national day is celebrated with fun or joy by organizing sport or drawing competitions, seminars, group discussions, debates, quiz competitions, and many more programs are conducted in schools and other educational institutions across the country.
