National Education Day 2025

Introduction – National Education is celebrated every year on November 11 to honor or celebrate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. Maulana Azad worked as the first education minister between August 15, 1947, and February 2, 1958, in the cabinet of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. This national day is mainly celebrated by schools with many programs and functions across the country.  The main aim of this day is to highlights the importance of education to become successful people in their lives.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was born on November 11, 1888, and was also a freedom fighter and reformer that dedicated for building the nation through education. He played an important role in setting up the best educational bodies such as the University Grants Commission, and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Maulana Azad also introduced or established the first Indian Institute of Technology – IIT Kharagpur, India.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, popularly known as Maulana Azad, was an Indian Independence activist or freedom fighter, Islamic theologian, writer, and senior leader of an Indian National Congress. After Independence, Maulana Azad became the first education minister between August 15, 1947, and February 2, 1958, under the government of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. Due to his great contribution in establishing the education foundation in India, the birthday of Maulana Azad is celebrated as a National Education Day every year on November 11 across the country. Maulana Azad played an important role in the formation of the education system of India. He mainly concentrated on the education of rural poor children and girls. Maulana Azad also supports free education for those children who are under the age of 14

History – The Ministry of Human Resources Development announced that National Education is celebrated every year on November 11 to honor the birthday anniversary of Abul Kalam Azad due to his great contribution to education in India. Since 2008, this national day has been celebrated annually on November 11 without declaring a holiday. Maulana Azad was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award in the year 1992.

Significance – Maulana Abul Kamal Azad was the first Education Minister of India from August 15, 1947 to February 2, 1958, after independence. He played a significant role in the formation of the education system of India and focussed on the education of rural poor and girls. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad also supports free compulsory education for those children who are under the age of 14. He was also an Islamic theologian, freedom fighter, writer, and senior leader of the Indian National Congress.

There were several programs are organizing by schools such as debates, seminars, essay writing, rallies, and many more across India. On this day, teachers and students come together to talk about the importance of the nation’s commitment and literacy to all aspects of education. This national day commemorates all the great contributions of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad in the field of the education system of independent India.
