An emotional affair is a non physical and starts with a platonic or friendly relationship which describe a special bond between male and female individuals without being a sexual relationships. It is also intimate and deep special bond with somebody outside of a committed relationship without a physical intimacy or relationship but it is characterized by sharing individual thoughts, secrets, and feelings. Most individuals spend time with somebody and avoid their partners, which may harmful for their marriage relationships

Emotional affair also involves intimate and very close bond or emotional relationship between male and female partners where they share their feelings, painful or happy experiences, and personal thoughts with somebody other than their partners. Most married couples hide their emotional affair or relationships from their partners, which may be harmful for their marriage relationships if their partners and family members know their secret relationships.

This type of affair may occur from a friendship and level of individual intimacy and attachment. The intimacy involved in emotional affair may be more intense or compared with intimacy in a sexual affair. This type of affair may not involve sexual or physical relationships, which may be distinguish from a sexual affair. But in some cases, emotional affair is converted into sexual affair.
