Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was also an Indian politician and became the first Vice President of India from 1952 to 1962. After that, he also became the second President of India between 1962 and 1967. Earlier, he was also becoming the second ambassador of India to the Soviet Union between 1949 and 1952 before becoming the first Vice President of India.  Dr. Radhakrishnan also worked as the second Vice-Chancellor of Andhra Pradesh University between 1931 and 1936 and later he became or took the charge of the 4th Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) between 1939 and 1948. At that time, Dr. Radhakrishnan was considered as one of the most powerful, significant, and influential scholars of comparative philosophy and religion in the 20th century.

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was also awarded or received or honored with the top award, Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India, in the year 1954. He also received many high awards throughout his life including a knighthood in India in the year 1931. He was also an academic professor in India and was born on September 5 in the year 1888 thus, the birthday anniversary of Dr. Radhakrishnan is celebrated as a teacher’s day annually on September 5 in India.

Presently, Teacher’s Day is celebrated annually on September 5 in India to honor or celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and recognized the contribution and importance of teachers in our lives. Earlier, when Dr. Radhakrishnan took office or charge as the second President of India then their students demanded to celebrate September 5 as a special day in the year 1962. Dr. Radhakrishnan wanted to celebrate his birthday anniversary as Teacher’s Day every year on September 5 in India to recognize or honor the importance and contribution of teachers in the individual’s life.  Therefore, September 5 has been celebrated as Teacher’s Day in primary schools, degree colleges, universities, and many other educational institutions in India since 1962.
