Eid-e-Zehra is celebrated on the 9th of Rabi ul Awal mainly by Shia Muslims to honor the revenge of the Karbala War by Mukhtar al-Thaqafi, who killed those responsible for the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his family. This festival also signifies the Imamate of the 12th Imam, Imam Mahdi, and marks the end of the mourning month of Muharram. According to Shia beliefs, Prophet Muhammad’s daughter, Fatima Zahra, felt calm and happy on this day as justice was served.

Mukhtar al-Thaqafi revolted against the Umayyad Caliphate, seeking justice for the Karbala tragedy by taking revenge against those responsible for the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his followers. Thus, Shia Muslims celebrate Eid-e-Zehra after Muharram, a period of mourning. Eid-e-Zehra is also the celebration of the first day of the Imamate of Imam Mahdi. According to Shia beliefs, Imam Zainul Abideen smiled for the first time after the tragic events of Karbala on this day, marking a shift from mourning to celebration. Shia Muslims celebrate by sharing food and sweets with family and friends, and by offering prayers of thanks to God for bringing happiness and peace after mourning.

Eid-e-Zehra is considered a major celebration, primarily for Shia Muslims worldwide. On this day, Shia Muslims wear new, mainly red clothes, share sweets, spend a joyful time with family and friends, offer prayers, and apply perfume to celebrate with happiness and joy.
