Quit India Movement

Mahatma Gandhi, along with the All-India Congress Committee, launched the movement of Quit India Movement on August 8 in the year 1942 to demand the end of the rule of the British Government in India at the time of World War Second. Mahatma Gandhi delivered a speech called “Do or Die” in his “Quit India” Speech on the day before the Quit India Movement, which was delivered on August 8, 1942, in Mumbai at the Gowalia Tank Maidan, previously known as August Kranti Maidan. Mahatma Gandhi delivered the Quit India Speech to support the Indian Independence Movement and end the rule of the British in India.

When Mahatma Gandhi called ‘’An Orderly British Withdrawal’ from our country then All India Congress Committee introduced a mass protest to end British rune in India. After that, the all leaders of Indian National Congress were arrested with no trial after the speech of Mahatma Gandhi. The Quit India Movement involves several violent incidents occurred across the country against or end the British rule in India. During the Quit India Movement, the British Government arrested and imprisoned several thousands of leaders or freedom fighters until in the year 1945 when the Quit India Movement was ended.

The Quit India Movement ended with the release of leaders or freedom fighters in the year 1945. Several freedom fighters sacrificed (shaheed) during the Quit India Movement, including Kushal Konwar, Mukunda Kakati, Bhogeswari Phukanani, Matangini Hazra, and many more. The RBI (Reserve Bank of India) issued a one rupee note to honor or celebrate the 50th anniversary or Golden Jubilee of the Quit India Movement in the year 1992.
