International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2025

Introduction – International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking also popularly called as World Drug Day is celebrated every year on June 26 to take action and cooperation to make a world free of drug abuse across the globe. The main aim of this international day is to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drugs worldwide. This International Day provides an opportunity to educate common people about the negative effects of drug abuse across the world. Many communities and organizations come together against drug abuse and illicit trafficking to inform young individuals about several difficulties that are faced by druggist youngsters and their families worldwide.

History – The United Nations General Assembly approved the resolution on December 7, 1987, and announced to observe International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking annually on June 26 across the world. The main goal of this international day is to make a society free of drug abuse globally.

Significance – Drug abuse is a severe problem, which affects millions of individuals across the world that may harm the health, relationships, and future of an individual. Drug trafficking is the illegal or prohibited selling of drugs which may cause several issues in many communities Thus, the main goal of this international day is to encourage the prevention of drug abuse and all countries to work together in stopping drug trafficking worldwide.
