History – Around 100 sex workers gathered at Saint-Nizier Church in Lyon, France on June 2, 1975, to express or protect against the criminalized or abusive or oppressive working and living conditions. The protest of sex workers against the oppressive or cruel working and living conditions was launched in the whole of France, which made the breaking news on TV channels and many newspapers sparking national and worldwide discussions. Sex workers demanded the reopening of hotels where they worked, prevent violence or harassment, and proper investigations of the murders of many sex workers during the eight-day strike.

Sex workers have participated and protested against the harassment and oppressive or cruel living and working conditions for 8 days in France. This movement created a spark that ignited the basic rights of sex workers campaign in Europe. Thus, International Sex Workers Day is celebrated every year on June 2 all around the world.
