World Cancer Day 2025

Introduction – World Cancer Day is an international day and is celebrated every year on February 4 to spread awareness about cancer and promote its treatment, detection, and prevention It is mainly observed by the (UICC) Union for International Cancer Control to support the goals of the World Cancer Declaration, which was written in the year 2018. The main purpose of this international day is to reduce deaths that are caused by cancer. This international day was celebrated by the United Nations and targets misinformation decreases stigma and raises awareness.

Presently, cancer is the second leading cause of death and millions of people die due to cancer worldwide. Several types of cancer that occur but the most common cancers which affect mostly in India are cervical, colorectal, lung, neck, brain, and breast cancer. Now, cancer has become a major health concern in the past several years worldwide.

History – Firstly, World Cancer Day was observed on February 4, 2000, at the World Cancer Summit which works against the dangerous disease of cancer for the new Millennium and was held in Paris, France. The purpose of the Paris Charter is to encourage the spread of awareness about the deadly disease of cancer, how to prevent cancer, research, better patient services, and mobilize the international community to make progress against the dangerous disease of cancer.

Theme – The theme of World Cancer Day in the year 2025 is ‘United by Unique’ which marks or indicate the starting of campaign for three years between 2025 and 2027 to raise awareness about several types of cancers across the world. Earlier, the theme of World Cancer Day in the year 2024 is ‘’Close the care gap’’ which was a part of the three-year campaign between 2022 and 2024.

Significance – Several types of cancer such as blood cancer, leukaemia, lung cancer, spinal cancer, and many more may be caused by modifiable or non-modifiable factors. Many cancers cause or occur due to several lifestyle factors obesity, taking too much alcohol, lack of physical activity, bad eating habits, and many more. Several symptoms of cancers are sudden weight loss, appetite loss, fatigue, unexpected bleeding, unusual swelling, indigestion, and many more. You must avoid a large intake of alcohol and many other bad lifestyles or eating habits to avoid cancer. The main purpose of World Cancer Day is to share information about the causes, and prevention of cancers across the world.
