Introduction – World Computer Literacy Day is celebrated annually on December 2 to raise awareness about the significant role of computers in our lives and enhance the use of digital literacy in all communities across the world. Presently, computer literacy plays a significant role in schools, multinational or private companies, government offices, schools, colleges, banks, and many more. This international day provides an opportunity to celebrate advancements in computer technology and encourage literacy worldwide.

Computer literacy is the capability to use computers efficiently and latest technology. These skills may range from fundamental computer knowledge which enables you to operate simple computer software to more advanced skills. Presently, computer skill is very important for you to understand computer programs and is essential for your career growth.  Now, most companies use the latest technologies related to the computer across the world. History – Indian computer company NIIT (National Institute of Information Technology) has established World Computer Literacy Day to celebrate or honor the 20^th anniversary of its establishment in the year 2001.  This global day aims to highlight the importance of computer education among youngsters for career growth. The first celebration of this global day occurs in the year 2001. The main aim of this global day is to promote the development of technological skills in youths especially women and children across the world.

Theme – The theme of World Computer Literacy Day in the year 2024 was not declared yet. Earlier, the theme of World Computer Literacy Day in the year 2023 is ‘’Promoting literacy for a world in transition: Building the foundation for sustainable and peaceful societies’’ which talks about promoting the computer knowledge and making the base for sustainable and peaceful societies across the world.

Significance – Computer literacy is the knowledge and capability of using computers which related to technology proficiently with great skill levels ranging between basic concepts and computer programming with advanced problem-solving. It also refers to high-level computer programs and applications. Computer literacy also refers to the level of knowledge or skill of any person to use computers efficiently. It may be different from computer programming which primarily concentrates on the design and coding of computer programs rather than the familiarity and skill in their use. This global day provides an opportunity to understand how a computer works and operates. Thus, the main purpose of this international day is to honor or celebrate the advancements in computer technology and encourage digital literacy, especially for women and children.
