Ramadan is the ninth month of the Hijri or Islamic calendar and is also called as Ramzan. The Hijri calendar starts from Moharram, Safar, Rabiul Awwal, Rabius Sami, Jamadiul Awwal, Jamadus Sami, Rajab, Shaban, and Ramadan. The remaining three months are Shawwal, Zidat, and Zilhijja.

Ramadan is celebrated as the month of fasting, praying, charity, and doing good things for 29 or 30 days. It is a very important month for Muslims worldwide due to Quaran’s first revelation to Mohammad (A.S), the prophet. Ramzan is also a month of worship, blessings, spiritual reflection, and increased devotion. Holy Quran was revealed in the month of Ramzan which is a source of true guidance for all mankind.

As per Islamic belief, Ramadan is an Arabic word, which means dryness or scorching heat and is one of the five pillars of Islam. Fasting is beneficial for your good health when properly put into the holy month of Ramadan. The month of Ramadan is based on fasting (roza) which promotes the elimination of toxins from the human body, lowers blood sugar, and reduces fat stores in the body. Fasting (Roza) also encourages healthy eating habits and boosts immunity which is beneficial for your health.
There are many important or essential practices in the holy month of Ramazan are given below –
- Sehri
- Iftar
- Fasting (Roza)
- Recitation of Quran
- Night Prayers
- Laylatul Qadr Prayer
- Zakat or Charity

The holy month of Ramzan is divided into three parts are given below –
- Rahmat – “Mercy of Allah’’
- Maghfirat – ‘’Forgiveness of Allah’’
- Nijaat – ‘’Salvation’’
The first 10 days of the holy month of Ramadan signify the mercy of Almighty Allah, the next 10 days signify forgiveness of Almighty Allah, and finally, the last 10 days signify safety from the Hellfire. Thus, Ramadan is known as a month of forgiveness and mercy and also allows for all Muslims or devotees to be saved from the Hellfire. In the holy month of Ramzan, a Muslim is also blessed with a night (Laila-tul-Qadr) that is better than a thousand months.
The main purpose of the holy month of Ramadan is to purify the body and the soul increase their good deeds and God-consciousness also know the difficulty for thirsty and hungry the whole day. This purification of the human body and soul harmonizes the inner and outer spheres of a Muslim individuals or devotee.. Ramadan is also a month of Ibadat (Prayer) so we also observe prayer or Namaz during fasting or in the holy month of Ramzan.
