It’s very heartbreaking, shocking, and very sad news that former Miss India Tripura, Rinky Chakma died at the age of 28 due to a malignant phyllodes tumor (breast cancer) on February 29, 2024. Previously, she was admitted to Max Hospital Saket on February 22, 2024, due to her critical condition and was put on ventilator support. According to a report by Femina, the health of Rinky Chakma worsened, and was not able to sustain chemo.

In the year 2022, Rinky Chakma was diagnosed with a malignant phyllodes tumor and later she underwent surgery. But this cancer spread to her lungs and reached or progressed to the brain which resulted in a brain tumor. Malignant phyllodes tumor is one of the rare tumors of the breast affecting women which commonly occurs at the age between 35 and 55 years.

Earlier, Rinky Chakma won the trophy of Miss India Tripura crown in the year 2017. She also won two sub-titles Miss Congeniality and Beauty as a Miss India finalist.
