Several other Indian celebrities who died in the year 2023 are given below –

  1. Salim Durani – An Afghan-born Indian cricketer, Salim Aziz Durani die due to cancer at the age of 88 on April 2, 2023. He played 29 test matches between 1960 and 1973 and is popular for his six-hitting prowess. Salim Durani was the only Indian cricketer to have been born in Afghanistan. He was a left-handed batsman and a slow left-arm bowler and also was the first player to win an Arjuna Award in the year 2011. Salim Durani was also working in the movie Charitra with popular actress Parveen Babi in the year 1973.
  2. Srichand P Hinduja – Indian businessman, Srichand Parmanand Hinduja died at the age of 87 on May 17, 2023. He was an investor, philanthropist, businessman, main shareholder, and chairman of the Hinduja Group of companies. He was also the richest individual in the United Kingdom with his brother Gopichand.
  3. Sylvester da Cunha – Indian advertising professional, Sylvester da Cunha died at the age of 92 on June 21, 2023. He was well-known for creating the Utterly Butterly advertising campaign Amul girl mascot or symbol to promote or advertise the Indian dairy cooperative Amul. He was also working as a consultant in several multinational agencies such as UNICEF, the World Bank, and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development on many projects that were connected with food and nutrition.
  4. Rio Kapadia – Indian Bollywood and Television actor, Rio Kapadia died due to cancer at the age of 66 on September 13, 2023. He worked in several Hindi popular movies including Chak De India, Happy New Year, Dil Chahta Hai, and Mardaani. Rio Kapadia also appeared in popular serials including Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Sapne Sunahe Ladalpan Ke, Kkusum, Ek Aam Ladki Ki Kahaani, and many more.
  5. M.S. Swaminathan – Indian agronomist, Mankombu Sambasivan Swaminathan died due to age-related illnesses at the age of 98 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu on September 28, 2023. He was popular as the main architect of the green revolution in India for his great leadership and played an important role in introducing and developing high-yielding varieties of rice and wheat. He was also popularly called as ‘’The Father of Economic Ecology’’ by the United Nations Environment Program.
  6. Bishan Singh Bedi – Indian cricketer, Bishan Singh Bedi died at the age of 77 on October 23, 2023, in New Delhi. Bishan Singh Bedi was a main slow left-arm bowler and played test cricket for India between 1966 and 1979. He played 67 test matches and took 266 wickets and was also captain in 22 test matches. Bishan Bedi has also received the Padma Shri award in the year 1970. He was also awarded the C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award in the year 2004.
  7. Subrata Roy – Indian businessman, Subrata Roy died at the age of 75 on November 14 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Subrata Roy established or founded the Sahara India Pariwar in the year 1978. He was the chairman and founder of the Sahara India Pariwar, which operated a large number of businesses including Sahara Movie Studios, Uttar Pradesh Wizards, Aamby Valley City, Air Sahara, and many more.
  8. Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi – Indian hotelier, Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi died at the age of 94 on November 14, 2023, in Delhi. Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi was the executive chairman of Oberoi Group, which operates a chain of luxury hotels and is also the third-largest hospitality chain in India. He also received India’s second-highest civilian honor, Padma Vibushan in the year 2008.
  9. Leelavathi – Indian actress, Leelavathi died due to age-related illness at the age of 85 on December 8, 2023. She started her career or debut in a small role in the movie Nagakannika which was released in the year 1949. Leelavathi has worked more than 600 movies and was popular for several memorable roles as a lead actress including Valar Pirai, Bhkata Kumbara, Santha Thukaram, Rani Honnamma, and Mana Mecchida Madadi.
