International Anti-Corruption Day 2023

Introduction – International Anti-Corruption Day is observed annually on December 9 to raise awareness against corruption among people and make society corruption-free across the world. The main aim of this international day is to spread awareness about the harmful effects of corruption on the development and progress of our country.

Corruption is one of the main problems that may harmfully affect or threaten the economic and social development of societies worldwide. It occurs in every field including hospitals, private companies, government offices, and many more. Many government schemes do not reach common or poor people due to corruption.

History – The United Nations approved the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) which was drafted on October 31st, 2003. It is the first step in fighting against corruption across the world. United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) was a treaty that was signed by United Nations (UN) member states, which came together to join forces in fighting against corruption that enforce law and order. The treaty or agreement was signed on December 9 and came into effect on December 14, 2005.

Theme – The theme of International Anti-Corruption Day in the year 2023 is ‘’Uniting the World Against Corruption’’ which talks about uniting all countries to lower or prevent corruption by taking tough steps and making corruption-free societies across the world.

Significance – The main goal of this international day is to highlight the link between anti-corruption and peace, progress, and security in society.  Corruption is an act which affects the economic development of the country. Corruption mainly affects poor people because government schemes do not reach to poor common people across the world. There are several seminars, debates, campaigns, and many more were organized to provide knowledge to the common people about how to reduce corruption across the world on this day.  Government and private organizations may organize several events including speech and essay writing competitions, and many more in schools and colleges to make aware of corruption and its effects on society among young individuals in our country.
