Sign language – It is a manual communication, which is generally used by those people who are deaf or impaired hearing problems. This language is not universal and deaf people from many countries speak different sign languages. It means that every country has different sign languages for deaf individuals to communicate with their family members including parents and close friends.

The symbols or gestures in sign language that are organized linguistically and each gesture is called as a sign. In sign language, each sign has three different parts such as the movement of the hands, the handshape, and the position of the hands.

- As per the World Federation of the Deaf, there are about 70 million individuals across the world who use sign language to communicate with their family members and close friends.
- Most countries have their own sign language with a different dialect for deaf individuals to communicate with individuals around them.

- There are about 300 different sign languages but only 130 are recognized across the world.
- BSL (British Sign Language), ASL (American Sign Language), and FSL (French Sign Language) are the most commonly used sign languages worldwide.
- Sign language also means communication through bodily movements especially the use of arms and hands are used to talk with other individuals
- Sign languages have their own grammatical structures and rules, word order, and syntax that allow deaf individuals to express their complex ideas and thoughts to other individuals.
- Sign language is not only beneficial for deaf individuals but also benefits for those individuals who communicate with deaf individuals.
- Sign language is also beneficial for those people who are suffering from impaired hearing problems.
- Several children with autism also use sign language to communicate with their parents and other individuals.
