World Alzheimer’s Day 2022

Introduction – World Alzheimer’s Day is celebrated annually on September 21 to spread awareness and educate about Dementia and Alzheimer’s among common people across the world. As per ADI (Alzheimer’s Disease International), there are more than 55 million people are suffering from this disease in the year 2020.

Alzheimer’s is one of the progressive brain diseases and is the most common form of dementia. This disease affects the brain cell which leads to changes in memory, erratic memory, memory loss, and loss of body functions. An individual who is suffering from Alzheimer’s that are suffering from difficulty in concentrating and making decisions. Thus, ignorance of the early symptoms of this disease leads to the worsening of the situation of patients.

History – Firstly, Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) celebrated World Alzheimer’s Day in the year 1994 in Edinburgh on September 21 to honor its 10th anniversary. ADI was founded in the year 1984 and its main work is to educate people, aid victims, and advance relevant laws. ADI is the global federation of Alzheimer’s associations that support people with dementia and Alzheimer’s across the world. ADI also collaborates with member organizations and associations to plan activities and spread awareness about Alzheimer’s and Dementia all around the world.

Theme – The theme of World Alzheimer’s Day 2022 is the same as the previous year is ‘’Know Dementia, Know Alzheimer’s’’ for campaigning worldwide.  The main aim of this international day is to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s symptoms and risk factors among people all around the world.

Significance – This international day is observed every year on September 21 to spread awareness about the risks of dementia and to expose its myths. This international day provides an opportunity for individuals to inform how they can fight with these several challenges or difficulties and help those people who are suffering from dementia. The main cause of Alzheimer’s disease is unknown but it affects the functions of brain cells and leads to harmful and extremely toxic events. The main purpose of this international day is to provide important information about Alzheimer’s disease among people globally. Forgetting several things is the main symptom of Alzheimer’s during the early stages. The main goal of this international day is to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s symptoms and risk factors among people across the world.
