National Mountain Climbing Day 2022

Introduction – National Mountain Climbing Day is celebrated every year on August 1 to honor mountaineers Bobby Mathews and his friend Josh Madigan which was successfully climbing the 46th peak of New York State’s Adirondack Mountains. The main purpose of this day is to encourage mountain climbing which helps in maintaining good physical health.

Mountain climbing is one of the most thrilling and also dangerous outdoor activities which have become popular gradually in India. Mountain climbing is also good for health and is a form of exercise that makes use of all the muscles in the body and provides us with a full-body workout. The main benefit of mountains is to provide 60 to 80 percent of freshwater resources to our planet. There is about half of the population across the world mainly depends on the mountain ecosystem services to survive in terms of water, climate, and food.

History – The two talented young male people climbed the high peak of Whiteface Mountain on August 1, 2015 thus, National Mountain Climbing Day is observed annually on August 1. Whiteface Mountain is the 5th highest mountain in New York in the United States and is one of the High Peaks of the Adirondack Mountains. Both Josh and Mathews were officially inducted into the Adirondack 46er Clun in the month of May.

Significance – Mountain climbing is an adventurous, exciting, or dangerous hobby for some people with face several challenges.  In the year 1965, Avatar Singh Cheema was the first Indian to climb Mount Everest. Bachendri Pal became the first Indian woman which climbed Mountain Everest at an age of 30 in 1984.  

Mountain climbing is an exciting or great experience to climb the top peak of the mountain and everyone should attempt or try it at least once in their life. Many people try to climb the mountain as a hobby with a pleasant or adventurous experience to reach new heights and conquer one peak after another. Mountains have main geographical importance in daily life and are responsible for defining the natural borders of countries and landscapes. Many people appreciate these elevated features and go for climbing or hiking at the risk of their lives.
