Introduction – World Rhino Day is celebrated on September 22 every year to spread awareness about the different species of rhinoceros all over the world. As per worldrhinoday.org, this day celebrates all the five different species of rhino such as white, black, greater-one horned, Javan rhinos, and Sumatran. The main goal of this day is to spread awareness about the Asian and African species of rhinoceros and promote people worldwide to take steps for their conservation.
History – World Wildlife Fund (WWF) was declared to observe World Rhino Day on every September 22 annually in the year 2010 all around the world. Firstly, World Rhino Day is celebrated in the year 2011. This day was popularized by two women namely Rhishja Cota, and Lisa Jane Campbell. Lisa was looking for collaborators to plan for World Rhino Day. Rhishja Cota, creative director and founder of Annamitici also worked with Lisa to protect the five different species of Rhinoceros. The main aim of Lisa and Rhishja to celebrate World Rhino Day to conserve all five different species of rhino made it a global success both offline and online.
Theme – The theme of World Rhino Day in the year 2021 is ‘’Keep the Five Alive’’ that promote the conservation of all five different species of rhinoceros such as Javan, black, white, Sumatran, and greater one-horned.
Significance – There are five different species of Rhinos, which are found in Asia and Africa. Worryingly, several species of rhinoceros are one of the most endangered animals due to poaching and habitat loss. This day plays an important in spreading awareness about these critically endangered species of rhinoceros. The main purpose of this day is to works on increase the population of endangered species of rhinoceros all around the world.
