Suicide: Symptoms, Causes, and Risk Factors

Introduction – Suicide is the act of intentionally that causing one’s own death due to severe depression. Depression, personality disorders, anxiety, alcohol use disorder, bipolar disorder, and many more are the risk factors of suicide. Several suicides are impulsive due to relationship problems including the death of close ones and breakups, financial problem, and harassment.

Due to the Covid-19 situation, suicide cases are rapidly increases due to unemployment, and financial crisis. About 1.5 percent of deaths are caused by suicide all over the world. Thus, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death all around the world.

Symptoms – There are several warning signs of suicide are given below –

  • Live alone and do not contact with family members and close friends
  • Always talk about suicide.
  • Do not talk to anyone
  • Feeling hopeless
  • Enhance the use of drugs or alcohol
  • Having mood swings such as depression
  • Do not visit any family gatherings and parties
  • Aggressive or impulsive behavior
  • Thinking, talking, and writing about death

Causes – There are several causes of suicides are given below –

  • Marriage relation problems
  • Breakups with a boyfriend or girlfriend or wife
  •  Unemployment
  • Severe depression
  • Death of closed ones
  • Loneliness
  • Financial problem
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • High emotional

Risk factors – There are several risk factors that may increase the risk of suicides are discussed below –

  • Have suicidal thoughts
  • Past attempted suicide before
  • Family history of mental disorders
  • Loneliness
  • Feeling hopeless
  • Severe depression
  • Socially isolated
  • Increase use of alcohol

So, if any people are suffering from severe depression or any other mental disorder then families or close friends should support those people that increase the prevention of suicides.
