World Day Against Child Labor 2021

Introduction – World Day Against Child Labor will be observed on June 12 every year for spreading awareness about the global extent of child labor with efforts and action is needed to eliminate it.

According to United Nations (UN), there are now 218 million child laborers throughout the world. There are some of the cases that are exposed to the worst form of child labor including slavery, illicit activities such as prostitution, drug trafficking, and also involved in armed conflict.  As per the latest report by the International Labor Organization (ILO) and UNICEF, the number of child labor has climbed to 160 million all over the world in which 8.4 million children in the last four years and millions more at risk due to the effects of Covid-19.

According to the report of ILO, the number of children from 5 to 17 years that are exposed to dangerous work has increased by about 6.5 million to 79 million since 2016. Due to the impact of Covid-19, about 9 million children may be added to child labor by the end of 2022 as per a report.

History – In the past, the International Labor Organization (ILO) introduced the World Day Against Child Labor in the year 2002. The main aim of this day is to spread awareness about child labor and how to eliminate it all over the world.

Theme – The theme of this World Day Against Child Labor is ‘’Act now: end child labor!”. In this year, A ‘’Weak of Action’’ will be started from June 12 that helps in the release of  new worldwide figures on child labor.

  2. It’s great to stop child labour but the world has to produce works for adults so no parents will allow their children to work.
