Gold is a tricky investment. Theoretically, when the markets go down, gold is safe heaven but lately, we saw that gold is up even when the markets are up. I don’t think we can view gold as we used to. It plays a new role in the market which is yet to be understood clearly. The big fear everyone has is that the market will make a correction and it will come crashing down, but no one knows or can predict that. It’s a good strategy to have gold in a portfolio for sure for balancing risk, and it is heavily supported by almost every single portfolio management theory, but we live in weird times, so it requires caution.

    2. Commodities like gold and silver never really lose its value.
However, the factor the affect the price is actually the rise and fall of the Fiat currencies.
For those who know some economy, we know that Fiat currency is backed by nothing and the government’s decide what the currency is worth.
When there is financial stability in such system commodity prices fall in value.
But if inflation rises in the fiat currencies and there are financial unrest, then the prices on commodity will sky rocket!
But gold and silver never lose its value. That’s why it is a good way to secure some of your wealth as there is always demand for commodities like silver and gold.
It has been so for the last 5000 years.

  3. Great Post!
Its true that you need to invest in commodities such as gold and silver in order to secure your wealth. It has been a trading commodity for at least 5000 years. Until today, even though the Fiat currencies are not backed up by gold, the governments are still collecting and safe keeping commodities such as gold and silver. This is to secure that the government’s national economy does not collapse along with the Fiat currencies.
Then imagine how much gold in the hand of individuals like you and me would be worth if we keep on collecting them?
