Platelets are component of blood whose function is to stop bleeding by clumping and clotting blood vessels injuries.
The normal platelet count is between 1, 50,000 to 4, 50,000 platelets per microlitre of circulating blood. Anything under 1, 50,000 platelets per microlitre of circulating blood is low platelet count. Low platelet count is also known as thrombocytopenia which leads to prolonged bleeding becoming bruised and enlarged spleen.
Symptoms of low Platelet Count:
The indication of low platelet is the continual bleeding due to cuts, impulsive bleeding from the gums or nose, blood in urine and skin rashes due to external bleeding into the skin. Both low and high platelet counts can be caused by an infection or blood and bone marrow disease.
Reasons of Low Platelet Count:

1. The presence of platelets in the spleen because of the cancer or serious liver diseases which reduces the number of platelets in circulation.
2. The decrease in platelets due to the leukemia, use of high alcohol, chemotherapy drugs and deficiency of vitamin B12.
3. The platelets in our body due to autoimmune diseases, medicines reactions, bacterial infection in the blood, pregnancy and health problems such as idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP).
4. The severe disease dengue is also results in low platelet count.
To increase low platelets count:
In order to prevent diseases occurring due to low platelet count or to increase the platelet count that has occurred due to to some disease, people can consume fruits vegetables and other edibles.

Papaya – The papaya fruits and its leaves are used to increase low platelet count. The juice of papaya is also used in dengue fever.
Wheatgrass – Wheatgrass is helpful in increasing platelet count as it is high in chlorophyll and is used to arise hemoglobin, red blood cells, and white blood cells.
Pumpkin – Pumpkin is used in rising low platelet count as it is rich in vitamin A that assists and increases proper platelet development. It also controls the proteins produced in the cells, which is significant to increase the platelet level.
Spinach – Spinach is rich in vitamin K which is frequently used to help in increasing low platelet count. Vitamin K is essential for proper blood clotting. Therefore, it decreases the risk of too much bleeding.
Vitamin C – For increasing the platelet count, one needs to increase the consumption of vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid. High consumption of vitamin C also prevents free-radical mediated damage of the platelets. Consume foods which are high in vitamin C such as lemons, oranges, tomatoes, cantaloupes, kiwi, spinach, bell peppers and broccoli.
Beetroot – Beetroot also helps in increasing the platelet count as it has natural antioxidant and haemostatic properties. Beetroot can increase the platelet count in just a few days.
Sesame Oil – Sesame oil is also useful in increasing the platelet count. It has properties of raising platelet level naturally. It also helps to recover blood circulation.
