Microwave oven is a very popular kitchen appliance that uses microwave radiation to heat and cook food easily, quickly and efficiently. Tappan launched the microwave for home use in 1955 and the microwave oven was first introduced by the Amana Corporation in 1967.
Microwave ovens are also used for heating earlier day cooked foods and cooking a different variety of foods. They are used for slowly prepared cooking items including hot butter, fats, and chocolate. A microwave oven can cook food six times faster than the traditional oven asa traditional oven heats food slowly from the outside. Microwave oven also saves energy.
Working of microwave oven
The working of a microwave oven is as follows:
- Microwave oven is made up of aluminium metal box which cannot pass the radiation and uses magnetron, a microwave generator. When you switch on microwave oven for cooking the food, the magnetron receives electricity from the power outlet and converts it into high-powered radio waves.
- The microwave oven has a waveguide, turntable and a timer switch. When the food enters inside the chamber and the timer is switched on, it sends a command to the magnetron for sending microwaves to the turntable to start rotating. The microwaves heat food which has water molecules
- When the oven is on, it sends microwaves which touch the water molecules
- After this, the water molecules start vibrating at a very high speed and produce heat. The turntable rotates and food is heated calmly.
