What are Dental Sealants?

Sealants are made up of a plastic material which is located in the depths and cracks of the chewing surfaces in the teeth due to the toothbrushes cannot reach into the grooves of the teeth for removing food particles.

Dental sealants are used in for the treatment of tooth decay and removing cavities. Sealants are positioned for filling them in the pits and fissures of the teeth which making a smooth surface and can easily to clean. The brushing of the teeth are help in removing the food particles and plaque in the smooth surfaces of the teeth.

Dental sealants are mostly used in kids because they are especially bad brushers that causes the in the back of the teeth lead to cavities and decay are at higher risk of tooth decay, and naturally they are placed as soon as the adult molar teeth come through.

Functions of sealants

It is very easy and painless procedure and takes less time to apply the sealants in the teeth by the dentists. The following steps are discussed below

  1. First of all the teeth are sealed for carefully cleaning.
  2. Teeth are dried by placing cotton around them.
  3. Acid solution poured on teeth roughens them for proper sealant contact
  4. After washing and drying teeth, the sealant is painted on the tooth enamel

Sealants can protect the teeth for 10 years from decay, and necessity for checked for chipping or wearing at regular dental check-ups.
